Based on the superior level of service and cost savings to their taxpayers, Fairborn City Schools and the Dayton Regional STEM School recently voted to extend their contracts with the Montgomery County ESC’s Shared Resources Center another year.
When Fairborn City Schools lost its full-time accounts payable person earlier this year, Treasurer/CFO Eric Beavers reached out to the SRC to fill the position. By using the shared services model, the district gained a fully insured and bonded expert in school finance without adding to its payroll. As an added benefit, the SRC provides the same high level of service in fewer hours and for less cost than it would take to hire a full-time replacement.
“The Shared Resources Center has been a great partnership for Fairborn City Schools,” said Beavers. “While filling a vacancy in the treasurer’s office, not only were we able to reduce the number of hours for the position, we were also able to achieve more efficiencies and greater streamlining. The Fairborn community’s tax dollars are being well spent!”
The SRC provides the DRSS with a fully licensed treasurer without the overhead associated with a full-time hire, such as benefits and retirement. The suite of financial services offered by the SRC is also helping the DRSS streamline its operations and make data-driven decisions based on financial projections.
“The Shared Resources Center is filling a much-needed financial services gap for educational institutions,” said Chris Kershner, vice president of public policy and economic development for the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce. “Their customized and innovative business model delivers outstanding financial planning and accounting, while at the same time identifying cost savings opportunities for our schools.”
